Have you ever had your hands covered in grease and dirt or paint and tried to wash it off with regular hand soap? You can scrub until your skin is raw and still not remove everything. Grease, engine oil, oil-based paints, inks, lacquers and other oil-based products can be a nightmare to remove. The only thing that seems to work is expensive anti-grease hand wash and lava soap, which contains crushed rock and acts as sandpaper. There is another alternative: coconut oil - not coconut soap oil, just the regular oil itself.
Coconut oil is an incredible degreaser. It cuts through fat as a hot knife cuts through butter. No more scrubbing for what seems like hours trying to clean your hands. Take a teaspoon or so and work over your hands as if you were washing your hands in the oil. The fat dissolves and virtually melts away the hands. Wipe it off with a paper towel when the grease has become liquid. Remove the remaining oil by washing your hands with plain soap and water. Your hands will be clean and spotless. It is easy. If you want a little more washing power, you can add a small amount of cornmeal to the oil. This gives the oil some teeth to dig out built-in dirt.
Coconut oil makes an excellent natural make-up and mascara remover. You do not need to use petroleum-based mineral oils or expensive makeup removers. Just drop some coconut oil on your hands and rub it on your face. Wipe off excess oil and makeup with paper towel and wash face with bath soap. Your face will look fresh and clean. You may want to apply a thin layer of coconut oil after washing with soap and water to moisturize and soften the skin.
